Dan Schooler's Syrup Mill

(click on images for larger picture)

Dan Schooler of Rupert, GA makes about 100 gallons of cane syrup a year.

This is Dan's power mill. He has replaced the engine with a larger one.
The mill is a Golden's #27. The engine shown is a 5 HP Monarch.

This mule is an easy keeper:-) No hay, and just a little gas keeps him going.

Dan cooks with an iron kettle. This setup looks like a piece of art.

Here is a view of the gas burner.

Here, the juice is being poured into the kettle.

Skimming the juice for the first time.

Just about ready! Here the temperature of the syrup is being taken.
Sure is a pretty head of foam:-)

Here the syrup is being taken off.

Getting close to the bottom.
